Congratulations!!!

Well done team! I'm so proud of you, what a fantastic performance.

Please make sure you write a short evaluation of the performance, and most importantly write about how you have developed your acting skills. Go back to your main target and reflect!

For the evaluation:

What were the strengths of your performance? Why?

How did the overall performance go?

What did another actor do that was effective?

What would you have changed/developed if you had to do the performance again? (About your performance)

  • A peer assessment sheet - one you wrote, one you wrote about someone else.
  • A copy of your script with annotations showing the work you have completed.
  • There should be some exercises written about from the rehearsals with how these have helped develop your acting skills.

Lesson 4

Well done on a great lesson.

Things to do this week on your blog are:

Complete the cream sheet with new targets and a reflection of your work on Thursday.

Ensure you continue to develop your character profile. What are you finding out about the character?

Take some photos or scan your script so I can see the text analysis you are doing.

Keep learning your lines so you are 100% sure of them.

Write about the SUBTEXT exercise.
• What is subtext?
• Did working out the subtext for your lines help?
• Did your scene change because of the subtext?

Lesson 3

Today we started off by exploring what you could so physically in pairs and then moved on to working on your scenes.

Your homework this week is to...

1. Learn your lines

2. Create a character profile for tor character. You need to work out the world of the character your are playing. What do they like or dislike and why? This will help you with playing the role successfully.

Use these questions to help you:
WANT! DO! FEEL!
In its simplest form Staninlavski’s system is: WANT, DO, FEEL…
I want something.
Therefore I do something.
Consequently I feel something.

What I WANT is an OBJECTIVE. What I DO is an ACTION. What I FEEL is an EMOTION.

Questions The eight questions, or W's, to ask about your character are:
·         WHO AM I?
·         WHERE AM I?
·         WHEN IS IT?
·         WHAT DO I NEED?
·         WHY DO I NEED IT NOW?
·         WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I DON’T GET WHAT I NEED?
·         WHAT DO I DO TO GET WHAT I NEED?
·         WHAT MUST I OVERCOME?

WHO AM I? What kind of person am I? How do I perceive myself? What is my background, my upbringing, influences, experiences, perceptions, accomplishments, attitudes, likes and dislikes, education, occupation, relationships and characteristics? How might my attitudes be influenced by social custom and habits that are part of the era in which I live and the world in which I move? I must make all these decisions personal and particular to me so that I can identify myself with my character in every possible way.

WHERE AM I? What kind of place is it? Is it indoors or out- doors? What sort of furniture is there? What colours, smell, or sounds? What does it mean to me? What objects are there in this place? Are they personal to me? What is the weather, temperature and climate?

WHEN IS IT? What time of day? What season, year?

WHERE HAVE I COME FROM? What has happened previously? How did I get here? What have I brought with me? Where am I going afterwards?

WHAT DO I NEED? This is my ACTION. It is what I will strive for. It is my motivating force, my desire, wish, and intention.

WHY DO I NEED IT? This is my justification for my Action. I must have a strong reasons for needing my Action.

WHY DO I NEED IT NOW? Answer the questions: Why now? Why not later, or before? I must justify why I need my Action now. All Actions are immediate.

Lesson 2 11/9/14

Well done for your work and great focus in the lesson today.

Here are your homework tasks to be completed for next week...

Task 1:

Complete the following questions:

•We started the lesson with a physical warm up. The first exercise was called Clear The Space, inspired by Frantic Assembly. How did this exercise help you to warm up?

•Why do actors need to warm up physically before a rehearsal?

•Explain how your body felt after the warm up?

•We explored warming up our voice through a series of exercises. Why is the voice an important tool for actors?

•Explain how your voice felt after the vocal warm up?

•We then explored STATUS. What do we mean by status?

•You explored the 'Hello' scene with a partner focusing on how you could show status. Explain the scene you created with your partner. How did you show status successfully?

•How did other pairs show status successfully?

•Finally you explored a scene between Callum and Sephy. You had to take it from page to stage using the skills developed in the exercise before. You were asked to focus on status. Which character had the highest stays in the scene and why? How did you show this?

Explain how you played the scene.

You were asked to think about your character's objective (what they wanted/their aim). What was your character's objective? How did knowing this help you to play the character successfully.

• Throughout the sharing you were asked to write some notes on other pairs work. Type/photograph these notes and put them on your blog.

•Finally, what acting skills have you developed in this session?

Task 2:

Themes of the play.

Pleas do some research on 'Noughts and Crosses'. What are the themes of the play. Your research could include:

Videos
Pictures
Articles
Poems...whatever else you find and want to include.

It's important you know the world of the play. We will continue to discuss this as the term unfolds.
